Introduction to the Language of Music
TEACHING
ABOUT THIS CLASS
This course offered preparation in the primary elements of music theory and musicianship. Students were given opportunities to improve their rhythm and pitch perception, reading skills, keyboard familiarity, and correct music notation. In the second half of the semester the class moved toward more advanced skills, including scale and chord construction, transposition, and procedures for harmonizing simple melodies. We finished with phrase structures and simple formal designs.
