Honors: Music in Time, Place & Ideas III

TEACHING

ABOUT THIS CLASS

This class offers intensive study of the changing repertories and practices of music from Europe and America. We examine composers’ creative choices and assumptions, as well as those of their patrons and audiences in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. As part of the core history curriculum of the Cali School of Music, it draws on a variety of perspectives relating to music, including literature, philosophy, history, art, and science. The class offers upper level undergraduates the experience of a discussion-based seminar format.
